Editing videos can be very frustrating, especially when you are doing it with a laptop that is not powerful enough. So, for today’s article, we are doing a breakdown of the Top 5 Laptops for video editing that will make video editing a breeze.

This isn’t going to be your regular top 5 articles, because all of the laptops we’ll be talking about are capable in their own rights. Rather than it being a competition, we’ll be talking about the best laptop in different categories, depending on your needs.

Top 5 Laptops for video editing

Best 2-in-1 Editing Laptop –  Microsoft Surface Book 3 (15-inch)

This laptop is on our list as the most versatile laptop you can get for video editing. It can serve as both a standard laptop and a tablet whenever you wish, thanks to its detachable 3K touchscreen. This screen has a 3:2 aspect ratio like all Microsoft products, which is great for productivity. It also covers 88% if the sRGB color gamut, with great color representation. With this, you can comfortably color correct on the go.

That’s not all. When it comes to performance, you cannot find a better notebook than the surface book 2. It comes with a 10th Gen Core i7 CPU with 32 gigabytes of DDR4 RAM, an Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti Graphics card, and a variety of storage options ranging from 256 gigabytes to 2 terabytes, all in SSD.

This laptop also offers one of the most impressive battery performances you will find on a laptop with up to 17.5 hours of battery life on typical device usage. This will obviously drop once you start doing heavy work but it’s still very impressive.

Best of all, Microsoft managed to pack such impressive performance into a relatively thin and light chassis, making this the portable editing god that it was designed to be.

Best Performance On A Budget – Dell G515 SE

Sporting the all-new AMD hardware is the Dell G5 SE.

At a price that’s less than half of what the Surface Book 3 goes for, this system offers an AMD Ryzen R7 4800H CPU. This CPU alone assassinates all of the competitors in this price range, but that’s not all.

This laptop also features an AMD Radeon RX 5600M GPU that powers its 15.6-inch display. This display covers 108 percent of the sRGB color gamut, which is 24 percent more than what you get with the Surface book 3. The battery life of this laptop is also really good and is quoted to last for more than 7 hours on regular use.

The only slight problem some people might have is that this doesn’t feature a 4K display so you won’t be able to play back your 4K videos natively. However, it is capable of transcoding 4K video to 1080p in less than 7 minutes.

If you also play games, then the 144 Hertz refresh rate of this screen should be able to make up for the fact that it’s just 1080p. All in all, though, this is a pretty great laptop for its price.

Most Powerful – Alienware Area-51m

An overclockable 9th Gen Core i9 desktop processor, the Nvidia RTX 2080 GPU, running on an SSD that sports 1,272 MBps in transfer rates? Asking for any more power would be criminal of anyone. This is certainly one of the most powerful laptops money can buy.

Continuing with its specs, this laptop’s RAM options range from 8 gigabytes all the way up to 64 gigabytes. And as for storage, you can select between a 1 terabyte HDD or a 512 gigabyte, 1 terabyte, or 2 terabyte SSD.

The laptop comes with a 17.3-inch display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080. It’s another 1080p screen, yeah, but for a smooth editing experience, the raw power of the system is more important than the display resolution of the screen.

With this, you’ll be able to scrub 4K video on your timeline pretty easily, cutting down your workflow time by a ton.

Apple – MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)

Here’s the thing, once you’re in the Apple ecosystem, it’s difficult to leave. We can slate them every day for selling overpriced hardware but their stuff is tried and trusted, so we can understand why people just opt for them. If you’re one of these people, then you’re in luck.

The 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro from last year remains the best Apple laptop for video editing. This laptop is designed with a fast Intel Core i9 CPU and a Powerful AMD Radeon Pro 5500M GPU.

As you would expect from Apple, the display does not fall short. The 16-inch display has a resolution of 3072 by 1920. It is very bright, colorful, and aesthetically pleasing with its slim bezels.

For the RAM and storage, you can get either 16 or 32 gigabytes of RAM, and storage options range between 512 gigabytes and 2 terabytes, all in SSD.

Unsurprisingly, this is the most expensive Laptop for video editing on today’s list, but it’s an excellent laptop for the money, no doubt.

Overall Best – Dell XPS 15

The Dell XPS 15 is the best video editing laptop that your money can buy. Maxing it out, you get a Core i7-10th gen, 64 gigabytes of RAM, and a 2 Terabyte SSD.

Furthermore, the XPS 15 seals the win with its 3840 by 2400 4K screen that features one of the best color reproductions and brightness in the market. This display covers 132 percent of the sRGB color gamut and blasts you with 434 nits of brightness.

Matching this visual power with the processing and graphic power of this laptop, there has not been a happier marriage. And guess what? It costs just $100 more than the Macbook Pro with much better performance and screen.
