Top 5 Easter Eggs you might have missed in the Batman

In the three-hour run of Matt Reeves’ The Batman starring Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz, there’s a lot for fans to dig through.

And director Reeves wants us to believe that this version of Batman could exist in the real world. However, while that may be the case, there are also several clues to the comics and other earlier Batman projects.

It is unsure whether they are setting up future installments, nevertheless, there are easter eggs hidden everywhere that give us a clue at exciting things to come.

Let’s take a look at 5 Easter eggs that you might have missed in The Batman. Needless to say that there are major The Batman spoilers ahead.

So if you haven’t seen the movie, now may be a good time to walk away. But if you have, let’s go uncover some Easter eggs!

  1. Venom Boost

In the final battle and climax of the movie, Batman finds himself in a brutal brawl with some of Riddler’s followers. Catwoman joins him to combat the criminals but they are easily outnumbered

Batman is terribly injured and running out of strength to fight, he then pulls a green vile containing a green liquid and stabs it into his leg.

Now, this could have just been an adrenaline shot but its green color gives a clue to the venom that Bane used in the comics. Although the film did not establish Bane as a threat to Gotham, comic fans will recognize the venom as what fueled Bane and increased his feelings of aggression.

Regardless of what it was, it gave Batman the strength to defeat the criminals and save Catwoman.

  1. Falcone being Catwoman’s Father

This Batman’s version graciously fleshed out Catwoman’s story. And in the beginning, we see her working undercover at the Iceberg Lounge to find out what happened to her missing friend.

Eventually, she teams up with Batman to take down Riddler, Penguin, and Falcone. Falcone was soon after revealed to be Selina’s father.

Interestingly, the revelation of Falcone being Catwoman’s father and her scratching his face with her claws is straight out of the comics, specifically Batman: Year One.

  1. The Riddler’s cards

The Riddler’s cards to Batman were overt clues to several legendary villains. We see throughout the movie as Riddler sends novelty cards to the caped crusader and each one contains a different riddle.

The cards are shown only very briefly, and if you look closely, each one hints at other famous Batman villains. One card showed an owl which is a clear clue to the newer Court of Owl villains.

The other pictures feature a crazy scientist, two glowing eyes that indicate mind control, a dummy, and a red-haired girl surrounded by green.

All these characters were obvious references to Hugo Strange, The Mad Hatter, The Ventriloquist, and Poison Ivy. These characters were four of Batman’s oldest and deadliest enemies.

However, it is not clear if they would be incorporated in the sequels. Still, it was a fun way to integrate the Dark Knight’s rogue’s gallery.

  1. Catwoman tells Batman she’s going to Bludhaven.

At the end of the movie, after saving Gotham from Riddler and his psychopathic followers, Batman and Catwoman decide to mutually part ways.

However, just before the film ends, the fighting duo meet up one last time and Catwoman reveals to Batman that she is heading to Bludhaven.

Now, Bludhaven is a city in New Jersey and it is another corrupt and crime-filled city in the Batman comics but that might not be the reason she’s headed there. Bludhaven also happens to be the hometown of Dick Grayson known now as Nightwing.

It was also the first city that Nightwing patrolled after leaving as Batman’s sidekick to become his own hero. So Bludhaven could serve a bigger purpose down the line.

And Robert Pattinson has stated that he wouldn’t mind a younger Robin joining his universe. So fingers crossed.

  1. The Great Flood

Another Easter egg that is a nod to the comics is in the flood that Riddler successfully pulls off. In the ending of The Batman, Gotham City is underwater as Riddler’s plans come to completion.

He did this by blowing up the reservoir and isolating the city from the outside. This clue is straight out of the pages of Zero Year comics.

It sees Riddler succeed in turning Gotham City into a wasteland and other villains competing for and successfully seizing territories for themselves.

The major power players were Mr. Freeze, Two-Face, and Oz The Penguin. However, The Penguin’s series for HBO Max is set to be released, so we could see his part all play out in the series before we see it in films.
