DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Writer Talks Mid-Credit Scene Surprise And Why Kang Doesn’t Appear

Doctor Strange in the Madness Multiverse The mid-credits scene’s stunning arrival has been broken down by writer Michael Waldron, who also explains why Kang the Conqueror isn’t in the sequel. SPOILERS ahead…

While Avengers: Endgame depicted what could happen if Earth’s Mightiest Heroes travelled across time (to what we now assume was another reality), Loki was the one who truly opened the door to the Multiverse. Jonathan Majors made his MCU debut as Kang the Conqueror Variant, He Who Remains, in the Disney+ series, and we can expect to see him again in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.

It’s difficult to determine which Variant that will be, but Michael Waldron, who worked as Loki’s Head Writer on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, has addressed Kang’s absence from the sequel.

Waldron told Deadline’s Hero Nation Podcast, “It seemed like we already had the largest, greatest bullet in Wanda.” “That while I was working with Sam, we should definitely make the decision to make Wanda the adversary of this movie.” It was thrilling, and part of that excitement came from the realization that “geez, we can’t allow another movie to have so much fun.” It’s because she’s going to be fantastic.”

“And I believe that if you had introduced Kang, as amazing as Jonathan Majors is and would be portraying that character, you would have risked the movie becoming overstuffed.”

That makes sense, as Charlize Theron’s Clea made an appearance in the Doctor Strange sequel. She made her first appearance in the movie’s mid-credits sequence, recruiting the former Sorcerer Supreme for an expedition into the Dark Dimension, and Waldron discussed her character’s origins.

“We knew we wanted to introduce Clea, who in the comics is, you could say, Doctor Strange’s great love, but she’s actually his formidable equal as a sorceress herself,” he stated. “Her origin is intriguing; she’s Dormammu’s niece, the huge floating head from the previous film.”

“They had a lot of amazing adventures in the comics, and we knew we wanted to introduce her, but it seemed like we had to wrap up his love story with Christine Palmer, Rachel McAdams’ character, to some level.” Doctor Strange hears Christine’s advice to overcome his worries and be open to the possibility of loving someone, and then Clea appears. What happens next will have to be seen.”

We shouldn’t have to wait long to see Strange again, but who knows how long he’ll be gone if he’s in the Dark Dimension. The hero appears to have been corrupted by black magic, which might mean significant trouble for the MCU in the future.

In cinemas currently comes Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
