The Incredible Emerald Battle

The Combatants

This is truly going to be an epic battle. We have Green VS Green, Hulk vs The Green Lantern. The Hulk, or Incredible Hulk, a man known for his path of destruction with reason… at heart he’s a teddy bear. 

 

 

In the other corner we have the Green Lantern. Although Green Lantern is the name for the entire group, specifically we will go with one of the most popular lanterns Hal Jordan.

 

The battle between Marvel and D.C. is one that has gone on forever, but its been a while since we have seen these two go at it. The last time they fought it was in the DC/Marvel Crossover Unlimited Access. The Hulk fought legendary Green Lantern Hal Jordan. In their previous battle there was no clear winner or loser.

I’m not going to get into the origin stories of how these two heroes came to be.  I’m just going to jump right into it, but before we get to it I want to set a stage. This will be more of a “Elseworld’s”, or “What if” story.

 

Hulk vs The Green Lantern: How it started

We find ourselves in the middle of a phone conversation between One-Above-All and The Presence, they’ve been going on about who’s best in their respective universes. The One-Above-All throws out a challenge; “I want you to find your smartest and most courageous being from your world and I want him to go up against The Hulk”. The Creator accepts the challenge… “I chose Hal Jordan of Sector 2814, he’s a Green Lantern.” They Hash out the deets, they will snag Hulk who is returning from Planet Hulk and transplant him into 1994, The Zero Hour. The Creator knew exactly what he was doing for Hal Jordan had just lost Coast City to Cyborg Superman.

 

The Battle

The Hulk arrives disheveled and not really knowing where he is.. it looks and feels like Earth, but this is not his Earth, he knows this for sure.  He knows he’s been here before, but after all that has happened to him he’s not sure… Hulk spots a figure in the distance covered in an envelope in a Green Glow but he really can make it out… is it a foe or is it a friend… his anger of where he gets the best of him…. his walk towards the figure turns into his devastating run. The Hulk leaps attempting to get a better view. Upon his landing he saw the man with his back turned… Long green and white cape. The green glow surrounding his body now fades and only his hands are enveloped in green. 

The man turns around, Hulk recognizes this man, it’s Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern. This time he appears to be much more different. He has a crazed look in his eyes and without warning a Green construct of a hammer similar to Mjolnir is formed and he is hit across the face with it sending him back some 50 to 60 yards. Hal is coming to him at a fast pace and Hulk can come to his senses quick enough. He’s hit with another construct this time it’s some chains that surround his body he tries all to break free, before he can get his thoughts and bearings together another construct of three jet fighters are attached to the chains and drag him through the ground. 

Hal Jordan the greatest Green Lantern is possessed by the entity known as Parallax, and because Hal is in possession of 10 lantern rings his powers seem unlimited. “Were you here to stop me?”, Hal Asked… Hulk enraged even more belts out a scream that sends ripples through the air. Hulk manages to break free of the chains, but he doesn’t let go. Instead he spins as fast as he can ready to hurl those jets back at Hal and just as he’s about to let go he falls back the constructs vanishing. 

Normally, Hulk would not have trouble with any foe, he recalls that dinosaur from their last battle that he was able to do away with easily. He belts out another scream, Hal levitating in the air has a smirk on his face. “I’ve got this one in the bag!” Hulk then takes a large boulder hurling it at Hal. Hal manages to dodge it, what he didn’t realize was that it was a diversion. Here comes Hulk leaping through the air. Hulk gets a grab of Hal’s cape, getting a good grip he hurls Jordan right into the ground, right under him. The Hulk lands dead center on Hal’s chest, luckily his rings provide some protection but not enough. Hal can feel that he has a few broken ribs. He spits out some blood and says “Looks like this will be more fun than I thought! Thank you Guardians!”

The Hulk continues his assault with a barrage of double fisted punches, Hal barely withstanding them is trying to conjure up a defensive plan. Hulk then picks up a bloodied and tattered Hal by his hair. The Incredible Hulk with Hal in hand starts walking, walking turns into a brisk jog and finally a hard run, with as much speed as he could possibly pick up he leaps and lands, he leaps again finally on his third jump he gets about 100 feet in the air . Hal, thinking cleverly, takes this opportunity to construct an emerald rocket jet pack, he catches the Hulk off guard.

The Hulk not wanting to let go of Hal attempts to tighten his grip but only manages to grab on to Hal’s ankle. He shatters it as he gives it a tight squeeze, Hal winces at the pain but he continues on. Now is his chance he proceeds to drag the hulk up to the Edge of space and then he lets the construct disappear.  Frost has formed around them both. Hal knows this is his chance. He proceeds to let gravity do its thing and pull them both towards the Earth.

Their speed picks up and the crackle of sonic boom goes off. “I’ve got to time this right” Hal thinks to himself, being the experienced test pilot he knows when the time is right, just not yet. The Hulk has no defense against this and does not know what to do. He tries wrestling with Hal but their speed is too fast. And with a blink of an eye a new construct forms it’s a sledgehammer. It swings and knocks the Hulk the rest of the way to Earth. A large boom is heard with a Mushroom Cloud forming. 

“It’s finally over”, Hal thinks to himself, seeing the nothing that used to be Coast City enrages him and he starts to let out a barrage of green bullets towards it.  “Now it’s really over, it’s time I finished the rest of my business!!!”

As he descends to see what’s left of The Hulk he finds a crater the size of 3 football Fields. He finds nothing. He decides to inspect even closer. Gliding above the surface he misses a faintly moving green hand as just as he passes it a large rumble and growl comes from behind him. He turns but he isn’t fast enough. His guard was down for enough time for the Hulk to grab him. And with the blink of an eye the Hulk snaps his neck and Hal’s, Parallax’s body goes limp.  Grunting and out of breath the Hulk says “Now…. *panting* it…. OVERRRRRRR!!!” as he yells. 

 

Hulk vs The Green Lantern: The Winner

 

I am a huge Green Lantern fan, writing this I flip flopped several times. However, I had to go with my gut and who I know would really win. Even though Parallax is one of the strongest foes in D.C. History ; the fact that Parallax has been defeated and The Incredible Hulk is still walking around solidified my choice.
