Emotional Damage!!! Microsoft Versus Sony
One would think that this is an article about that great Tic Tok Video that has gone viral, well its not but when you read what I have to say that video will replay over and over in your mind on repeat rent free.
This is started when those sexual harassment accusations started over at Blizzard/Activision, we covered that on a few of our episodes. Man going over that stuff was rough, and at the end of it all it left the company in a deep tail spin.
Let’s fast forward or at this point lets rewind to January 18th, 2022. Microsoft releases an announcement that they are purchasing Activision/Blizzard for $68.7 Billion Dollars. Now say that again imitating the great Doctor Evil “$68.7 Biiiiiilionnnn Dolllarrrrs”. In this deal they are acquiring some of these heavy hitter IP’s, Overwatch, Diablo, World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Candy Crush and last but not least Call of Duty.
Yeah, that’s right Call of freakin Duty. As a PlayStation loyalist, I had the same worries that many others had out there. What is going to happen with C.O.D. and Sony going forward. Will it no be a Xbox /PC exclusive. I can handle it being a PC exclusive as that is where I started playing C.O.D., but on Xbox no, I refuse.
Well, our worries didn’t last long, Microsoft announced that they will uphold and any previous deals made between Sony and Activision Blizzard so for the time being we can expect at least 3 more installations of C.O.D.
Many are wondering what Microsoft’s plan are with Activision/Blizzard and only time can tell? Will they hold this over the head of Sony and lets not forget Nintendo? One good thing will come of this, Microsoft will clean house, and get Activision/Blizzard on the right path, most likely saving the company form imminent doom.
And then, midday January 31th 2022 (yesterday) from the time of this writing even more news was made. This time it came from Sony. Sony said it is buying Bungie for $3.6 billion dollars, and according to CEO Jim Ryan this is not the only acquisition. It appears that Sony is going on a shopping spree.
Many are probably thinking that this was a move to snub Microsoft as Bungie is the developer of Halo… yup that’s right Halo. “Drop your shoe on the floor and just say it now!” That’s right EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!!!!
What does this mean for Halo? Will it finally make its appearance on PlayStation? What does this mean for Destiny? I have so many thoughts on this but not giving them to you just yet.
Sony claims that this is a deal that has been in the works for about 5-6 months. It’s probably true but announcing this helps Sony Stock and keeps investors happy.
Now what I want to know is what else are they acquiring? And would it be beneficial for both companies to just trade off some IP’s? A C.O.D. for Halo? I’m sure with time the answers will unfurl.
