Is Sony Setting Up the Debut of the Sinister Six?

Rumors have been swirling around who and what is exactly going into the Marvel and Sony team up Spider-Man: No Way Home. With this in mind, is Sony setting up the debut of the Sinister Six?

First, rumors told us that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire would return to their spidey suits and reprising their roles as Peter Parkers from various dimensions. Then it looked like those rumors were wrong.

Then Alfred Molina and Jaime Foxx, who played Doctor Octopus in Tobey Maguire’s Spidey universe and Electro in Andrew Garfield’s universe, respectively, showed up on set.

That seemed to confirm the suspicion that writers set no Way Home in the multiverse. A multiverse setting lines up with Kevin Feige’s plan of having Marvel’s Phase 4 all take place in multiple dimensions. Additionally, rumors are that fans saw Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Michael Keaton’s Vulture around the set of the upcoming Spider-Man film.

And with those confirmations, the rumors about Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire picked back up, with both of them needing to sign heavy NDAs and promising not to mention their involvement at all.

So what does all of this have to do with the Sinister Six? And how does it all tie into Marvel’s Phase 4 Multiverse?

Who Are The Sinister Six?

The Sinister Six is arguably the most dangerous group of Supervillains that Spider-Man comes across. It is composed of six villains that he had beat when they went after him single-handed.

If you think about it, a supergroup of villains is of the most authentic moments in comic book history. So why wouldn’t a group of villains think, ‘huh, I guess if we can’t beat him by ourselves, maybe we should just team up and work together to remove him from all of our individual lives.’

The original Sinister Six was composed of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, the Sandman, and the Vulture.

Where Have We Seen These Characters Before

That means that Sony and Marvel are ready to have the Sinister Six appear soon. All of the original members of the Sinister Six except for Kraven the Hunter appear in one of Tobey Maguire’s, Andrew Garfield’s, or Tom Holland’s Spider-Man universes.

Alfred Molina confirmed for Spider-Man: No Way Home played Doctor Octopus in the second Tobey Maguire Spider-Man. It was seen as the best of the original three Spider-Man movies, in large part because of Molina’s portrayal of the doctor with six extra robotic arms.

As well, Thomas Haden Church played Sandman in the third installment of the Tobey Maguire franchise.

The only member of the Sinister Six we get is Jaime Foxx’s Electro from the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies. While the movie he was in flopped, Jaime Foxx is a great actor, and it was through no fault of his.

From the new, Marvel-infused Tom Holland Spidey franchise, we have Michael Keaton’s Vulture, the main villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming. As well, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio was the main villain in the second installment of the franchise.

That leaves everyone accounted for except Kraven the Hunter, who has never been a part of any Spider-Man movies.

Until recently, that is. But then, just a few days ago, Sony announced that Aaron Taylor-Johnson would play Kraven in an upcoming film.

Whether or not Kraven is a part of the Sinister Six in the movies remains to be seen. However, versions of the villain group in the comics with the Green Goblin would explain Willem Dafoe’s presence on set.

What Will The Plot Be?

While there are no rumors about a Sinister Six movie and its plot, we do have an idea that seems to have gained some steam around the internet.

Here is how we could see a future Sinister Six movie-going:

Tom Holland is still our main Spider-Man, so we start in his universe. However, as the multiverse and Dr. Strange make an appearance, the Spider-Man villains from different Spider-Man film universes begin to team up to take down each Spider-Man.

That will force Holland’s Peter Parker, who is too weak to fight all six villains at once, to track down other universes’ Spider-Mans. Multiple Spider-Mans could include Maguire, Garfield, and maybe others as well.

From there, they will all need to learn to work together. Therefore, the group must ignore debates on who the real Spider-Man is behind defeat the Sinister Six.

Like that idea for a plot? What do you think is going to happen?

Let us know if you think Sony is planning a debut of the sinister six in the comments or on social media.
