In sports, injury can be very common and it is terrible when someone gets injured as it can cause a lot of pain. For athletes forced inactivity with the sport they play can get boring and is something many want to avoid. But injury does happen sometimes and you cannot help it. But there are things that you can do to reduce the risk or avoid getting injured when playing sport. Here are 5 ways to avoid getting injured:

1. Wear Appropriate Protective Gear

Wearing appropriate gear is very important in avoiding or reducing the chances of getting injured. In certain games you need to have appropriate gear that is required to play the game. Wearing mouth guards, helmets or head gear, knee pads, gloves, appropriate footwear and other protective gear in contact sports is the best way to reduce your chances of getting injured.

2. Stretch And Warm Up Before Playing The Game

Stretching and warming up your muscles are extremely important before playing sport. Getting them loose helps you when you actually play the sport or doing any exercise as it reduces the risk of spraining or straining any muscles. Doing specific stretches that uses the muscles you will use in the sport is great and definitely one of the best ways to prevent getting an injury.

3. Know The Rules Of The Game

The rules of the game are created and designed to keep things very safe so nothing bad does happen. If you know the rules of the game and follow these rules it will help you avoid getting injured when playing sport. You should respect these rules and illegal moves otherwise you can be penalised by coaches or referees. These rules are designed to help keep the athletes healthy.

4. Be In Good Physical Condition For Sport

Being in good physical condition for sport is a must if you want to avoid injury from occurring. You should be training for that sport and it is silly if thinking that by playing this sport you are getting fit. You should be fit and in the right physical condition to play the sport and this will definitely help preventing you for getting an injury.

5. Do Not Play If Injured Or In Pain

Some athletes think it is ok to play through an injury or if they are in pain, but this is the worst thing for any athlete to do. If you have an injury already or are experiencing pain you should not be plaything through it. You should rest and be fully recovered before playing again. If you do play through injury or when experiencing pain it will injure you even more and it will be harder to recover from the injury. You should never play if you are injured or if suffering from pain.
